Education Leaders call on us

Amidst "Learning Station users", Manas Chakrabarti addresses the visitors
On the evening of 23rd September 2005, Education Secretaries and State Project Directors (SPDs), Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) had a chance to witness a Hole-in-the-Wall project in action. These Education leaders from various states were on a visit to Vivekanand Camp in Delhi, where they got a taste of the “unstructured” learning environment for children.

Present on the occasion was Mr. Vijay K. Thadani, CEO, NIIT Ltd., who gave an introduction about Hole-in-the-Wall to the visitors. Subsequently, Manas Chakrabarti, Head, Hole-in-the-Wall Education Ltd. (HiWEL) spoke to the visitors amidst “enthusiastic” children. Besides making a presentation, Manas introduced the dignitaries to some of the children from the community whose lives have been touched by the Learning Station. So there was Raj Kishore, a 10-year old deaf and mute child isolated from the community, who now is a sought-after “expert” at the Learning Station. Then there was Pooja, a 13-year old orphan with a difficult past who had stopped going to the school. Now, not only she but also her two sisters have enrolled back into the school.

The Education Leaders from various states
Later, the visitors interacted freely with children, the community and with teachers from the local school. The Administrators quizzed the children about their knowledge and skills at the computer, and spoke to the teachers at length about the effect of the Learning Station on the students from the community.
